Job Summary/Basic Function

Assist the Head Football Coach in developing a quality NCAA Division I Football program that will be competitive on the field and in the classroom within NCAA guidelines and in a professional manner. Serve as an authority figure, a role model and a counselor to our student athletes advising them in matters related to their sport and their education. Serve as an ambassador of the university and a valued member of the community. Make public appearances and speak at civic events within the community in the absence of the head coach or as assigned. Attend national and Conference-USA meetings and conventions to stay abreast of their sports and changes that occur. Expected to know and follow NCAA rules and regulations and successfully pass the recruiting test each year to recruit for the university. Will immediately report any known violations of NCAA rules to the Director of Compliance; ensure all NCAA Compliance documentation is completed accurately and turned in to the compliance office in a timely fashion. Essential duties include assist the Head Coach with every phase of a Division I A football program including but not limited to: on the field defensive coaching, recruiting quality student athletes that can compete on the NCAA Division I level, assist with developing and scheduling competitive Division I schedule, assist with recommendations/purchase needed defensive equipment and budgeting of funds associated with that equipment. Assist the Head Coach in with: coaching the defensive position assigned; breaking down game film; development of scouting reports; developing or defensive skills of assigned position and other special projects as assigned by the Head Coach. Able to communicate effectively with prospective student athletes, their parents and the coach of the students. Must have coaching philosophy similar to the head coach; able to follow instructions and carry out all requested tasks i.e.; specific areas of supervision, oversight of official visits during weekend periods and observation of weight or conditioning workouts. The head coach is responsible for the oversight of the program and may require other additional duties at various times throughout the season.

Required Education

Bachelors required. Masters preferred.

Required Related Experience

Two years high school, college or professional coaching and/or collegiate competition experience required. Must have experience in the sport of football as a player and/or as a coach; necessary skills to teach the fundamentals of the sport with defensive skills being a major aspect of this position. Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations required.

Desirable Related Experience

Five years high school, college or professional coaching and/or collegiate competition experience preferred.
